Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!

One time in 2000, when I was living in L.A., a friend of mine from Louisiana came to visit me. Before she came, I prayed for God to bless our time together. While I was praying, my heart suddenly asked God, “If possible, Lord, can we see a famous basketball player?” I hadn’t planned to pray that – it just leapt from my heart. My friend was super into basketball, so I knew that seeing a famous player would make her day. When she was in town, we went to the Promenade in Santa Monica, and were just standing outside a store, when she grabbed my arm and exclaimed, “Thena! That’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!” I looked and saw the tallest, skinniest black dude I’ve ever laid eyes on, and I couldn’t believe it! I would have never known who he was, but God answered that seemingly silly prayer, just to bring joy to my friend, and build my faith. No matter how small they seem, God answers prayers!
